Yoga Therapy

LCDR Deidre Person with Jon Kabat-Zinn (the founding director of the Stress Reduction Clinic and Center of Mindfulness in Medicine and the founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) at the 2nd Annual Tri Service Medical Home Summit in Bethesda, MD.  Dee presented on the benefits of yoga for newly graduated Naval Recruits while she was a yoga instructor at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago, IL.

Yoga Therapy is a healing discipline that nurtures mind, body, and spirit through conscious movement, breath work, and most importantly self study.  Yoga therapy sets itself apart from standard physical therapy by treating the whole person and not just the symptoms. The goal is to get to the source of the problem and make a conscious change.

Dee works in small groups or private sessions.  Dee evaluates and addresses specific health problems and prescribes yoga postures and breathing exercises accordingly. She has extensive anatomy & physiology training  as well as specialized PTSD, grief, depression & anxiety training; as well as Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation) training.

Dee specializes in working with:

  • Victims of Domestic Violence & Assault
  • Chronic Pain & Fibromyalgia
  • Back Pain
  • Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga
  • Women Suffering from Depression and Anxiety
  • Vets

Yoga Therapy

Living with chronic pain?  Seeking to avoid surgery, medication, or suffering.  Discover yoga therapy, an alternative health and wellness practice that addresses specific health conditions and adapts a yoga practice accordingly.  Yoga therapy is a multifaceted modality that brings balance to the mind and body through the use of yoga postures, breathing exercises, diet and lifestyle considerations, and meditation.  Dee Person, yoga therapist, Navy veteran, former collegiate athlete, will meet with you to review your relevant health history and construct a detailed wellness plan catered to your unique health condition and goals.  In addition to practices typically found in Yoga (breathing, postures and relaxation) Dee uses a protocol known as "iRest" Yoga Nidra that has been approved by the Army Surgeon General as an alternative healthcare recommended practice for Veterans returning home with PTSD. iRest is an evidence-based transformative practice of deep relaxation and meditative inquiry that releases negative emotions and thought patterns and calms the nervous system.   Dee has an extensive background in yoga therapy and specializes in working with special populations such as Trauma Victims, those living with Autoimmune Diseases, and Mental Health disorders. Individualized Yoga therapy sessions and small group classes are available.
